IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CLAIMS

Claims filed against the City of West Sacramento for personal injury or property must be filed within a period provided by state statute after which the incident or event occurred; typically within six (6) months of incident or event. (See instructions on claim form for additional information.) The City Manager’s Office is the only office to which claims may be submitted. Claims will not be accepted by any other City Department.

Once filed with the City Manager’s Office, all claimants are notified by mail by the City, acknowledging receipt of the claim and that action will be taken within 45 days. Claims are then forwarded to the City’s claims administrator, Yolo County Public Agency Risk Management Insurance Authority (YCPARMIA) for investigation and evaluation. If recommended for denial by YCPARMIA, your claim will then be submitted to the City for final, official rejection. The City will send you a letter notifying you of the action taken and of any further action necessary or available to you. If YCPARMIA recommends payment of the claim, you will hear directly from YCPARMIA.

Presentation of a false claim is a felony (Penal Code §72). Pursuant to CCP §§128.5 and 1038, the City may seek to recover costs of defense in the event an action is filed that is later determined not to have been brought in good faith and with reasonable cause.
